Still recovering a bit from the time change, so we had a late start getting going this morning. Following a recommendation from our friend Jennifer we headed over to the Place des Vosges, a lovely block-size park very nearby in Le Marais.
We toured the Victor Hugo house museum on the square, and then walked over the Picasso Museum. In addition to the very extensive permanent exhibition of his works they have an exhibit focusing on the many artists whose works were censored by the Nazis in the 1930s as degenerate or otherwise undesirable. It was sobering to see, and the echoes of today are all too obvious and frightening.
This part of the city is very lively with small shops and restaurants. Part of Le Marais is the old Jewish Quarter, and we stumbled on this old synagogue (built in 1913).
Excellent snack of avocado toast at Ginsburger: even better than Cafe Soleil.
After returning to our apartment in the afternoon, we had a nice visit with the owner, who lives in the apartment next door. Following an unremarkable dinner in the evening, we stopped in a wine bar, La Lotta, for a glass. Very local place, and we had fun chatting with the other patrons about wines and travels.
